Express Entry

Express Entry is an online immigration application system that started in January 2015. It allows people to submit a profile and be considered as a skilled immigrant. Candidates with the highest rankings are invited to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
The Immigration Programs Express Entry covers are;
- The Skilled Worker Program
- The Skilled Trades Program
- The Canadian Experience Class.
Candidates who complete the Express Entry profile are awarded points based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) tool. It includes a central set of points up to 600 and a set of additional points of up to 600 based on several other factors. The total and maximum score is 1,200.
The central points considered are: age, skills and experience factors, spouse or common-law partner factors, such as their language skills and education. Skills transferability, including education and work experience.
Additional points are also awarded if you have completed a college or university program in Canada or if you have a provincial nomination.

This immigration stream is for business applicants or self-employed applicant who is a foreign national who has relevant experience and has the intention and ability to be self-employed in Canada and to make a significant contribution in Canada.

Provincial Nominee Programs

The Provincial Nominee Program is an immigration stream run by most Provinces and the application involves two separate stages which must be applied to.
Applicants must decide where they want to live in Canada and apply to that province or territory for a provincial nomination. The application will be reviewed based on the provincial or territorial immigration needs and if the applicant really plans to reside in the province.
After a province or territory nominates you, an application must be sent to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for permanent residency.
This program is for applicants who have the skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory. Each province and territory has its own “streams” (immigration programs that target certain groups) and local requirements.

Quebec Skilled Programs

This is the application process for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents of Canada and live in Quebec.
The province of Quebec has a special agreement on immigration with the Government of Canada. The province has its own set of rules for choosing immigrants who will adapt well and fully reside in the province.
Immigration to Canada as a Quebec-selected skilled worker, you must apply in the following 2 stages:
- Apply to the Government of Quebec for a Quebec Selection Certificate (Certificat de sélection du Québec [CSQ]). The Province of Quebec will assess and process you, using its own rules and requirements. The certificate shows that the Province of Quebec has accepted you as an immigrant.
- After Province of Quebec chooses you and gives you a CSQ, it is mandatory that you apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for permanent residency.

Atlantic Immigration Pilot Programs

The immigration stream was launched in 2017 and the program helps employers in Atlantic Canada hire foreign skilled workers who want to work and live in one of Canada’s 4 Atlantic Provinces.
The program also includes international graduates who want to reside in Atlantic Canada after they graduate.
There are 3 programs in the pilot that employers can hire you through. You may qualify for more than 1 program, but you can only apply through one.
The immigration programs are;
- Atlantic International Graduate Program
- Atlantic High-Skilled Program,
- Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program.
You must receive a job offer from a designated employer in Atlantic Canada to participate in the pilot.

Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Program

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot is a community-driven program. It is designed to spread the benefits of economic immigration to smaller communities by creating an immigration path to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers who want to work and reside in one of the participating communities. One year of continuous work experience (at least 1,560 hours) in the past 3 years is mandatory. There are 4 major steps to applying for permanent residence under the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot.
Applicants would need to meet both IRCC eligibility requirements and the community-specific requirements. Applicants would find an eligible job with an employer in one of the participating communities. With a job offer, an application for recommendation to the community would be made and if recommended by the community, the applicant can apply for permanent residency.

Agri-Food Immigration Pilot Program

The Agri-Food Pilot helps address the high labour demand of the Canadian agricultural-food sector. The pilot provides a pathway to permanent residence for experienced, non-seasonal workers in specific industries and occupations.
The immigration program would run until May 2023. A critical requirement for application to the Agri-Food Pilot stream, applicants need to show eligible work experience in an eligible industry and eligible occupation. A job offer for full-time, non-seasonal work in an eligible industry and occupation in Canada (outside of Quebec) is also required.
